I LOVE eyeliner - have done since I was 18 and probably will til I die. To me it's always in fashion in one form or another. It's the quick fix if you don't have time to do a full eye makeup, or  it can be a statement that needs nothing more than a soft lip to define the look. Whatever form you choose to apply it and by that I mean eyeliner, pencil or shadow, the trick is in having a steady hand. I tend to stay away from  eyeliner pens as they don't always go on evenly ... I am still searching for the one. Personally I like to use either a black pencil , my favourite being NARS as it is not so soft that it smudges and leaves you with panda eyes half way thru the day or I use a black eyeshadow that I use wet so it dries on the lid and stays in place. I use a  fine tip brush so you have more control and I wet the brush just a little before dipping in the shadow. Then draw the line as close to the eyelashes as you can get - I lift the lid up a little to do this - and make it the width that you want bit by bit . You have to let the shadow dry for a minute before opening your eye to avoid smudging. For a more dramatic effect I draw the line first with black pencil then go over it with a black eyeshadow either wet or dry depending how strong you want the look to be.
If anyone uses an eyeliner that they just love , is easy to apply and doesn't move please let me know... always love new products!

Hi. Love your blog! I watched your YouTube makeup demonstrations and enjoyed them very much! In this post you mention you use black eyeliner. As I am grey and over 60, that is too harsh for me. In your demonstration "Soft smokey eyes for women over 40" you are wearing a beautiful lighter color, perhaps a grey? Is that black with water effect, diluting it, or a different color? I want something soft like you are wearing in that vid. Thank you very much!

Hi Louise

Yes black can be too harsh as we age . I'm wearing a green pencil from Shu Uemura called Khaki, it's a beautiful colour . It's available in the US if you live there otherwise you can purchase online .

Well, it certainly is lovely on you, but I doubt it will look as good on me. Still, it will help define my eyes without looking so harsh. Thank you, again : )

    About...

I have been a makeup artist for over 20 yrs  and am passionate about beauty and helping women to look the best they possibly can. I believe that women are beautiful at any age , and being older myself, am constantly on the look out for products that will help the skin retain its glow and beauty.  From a very young age I have paid attention to my skin and have always gone looking for new, innovative - or even tried and true products that make a difference. I take inspiration from my friends and women I meet in my work. These women are the reason I started this blog , so that I can pass on my knowledge and help women to keep looking, and feeling amazing . I love finding new looks that inspire and you can adapt to your own style . I am also a mum with 3 boys which keeps my life very busy ... and never dull as anyone who knows me will attest to! All items posted on this blog are chosen because I have personally tried them and  like them. I hope you find something here that you will love and will work for you.
