Well I did my first makeup tutorial for you yesterday and enjoyed it even though it has been a long time since I was in front of the camera! My gorgeous model, Eilika was extremely patient and I thank her. You will have to excuse my sometimes rogue editing but am still learning and promise to get better...it's all a learning curve and I am enjoying every aspect of it. I decided to start with an easy makeup for you all to do but one that is incredibly effective at making you look great. Like I said, you can do different colors if you want and use a soft pink on the lid with a plum in the crease, or a light grey on the lid and a charcoal in the crease and underneath... just use your imagination and follow the techniques I have shown you.... and don't worry if you can't remember what I used ( I know that I forgot to actually mention WHAT product I used on the eyes in the crease from Priceline!) I have written a list for you underneath.... I also have to apologise for having to download a Part 1 & Part 2 to the tutorial as Youtube wouldn't load the full version, it was too long. Would love your feedback too so after you have watched the video leave me a comment about what you liked (or didn't) or what you would like to see... enjoy. And Happy Halloween! This is my inspiration for style when I am older. Linda Rodin is an ex stylist and now has her own skincare line called Rodin Olio Lusso. At 65 , she is a favourite among fashion bloggers. She has allowed herself to age naturally with grace and sooo much style and I can't wait for my hair to go this grey so I can look as great as this! For me it is so great to see an older woman wearing clothes that are quirky and individual.... she has exactly my taste in clothes! If you have the time, listen to her in the interview below talk about her philosophy on skincare and style. She is , for me, someone who I completely relate to and am inspired by. Getting older doesn't mean you can't still be beautiful... and sexy!
I was going to do a makeup tutorial this weekend and post it but I have been so busy working on a big commercial that I just didn't get the time to organise it so am sharing this product with you instead that I discovered through my friend , Kerryn. I noticed a couple of months ago that my hair was thinning in one place... too many years of dragging it back in a high pony/bun and we won't even mention the constant hair color changes. My friend was having a similiar problem and had just started taking this silicea gel which is meant to encourage new hair growth and improve the condition. So naturally I had to have some and have been taking this for over a month now. It tastes a little strange and chalky as there are tiny little beads suspended in a thick mixture so I mix it in with my juice each morning. I have noticed that my nails are really stronger now and shiny AND the ridges have disappeared...so that is a plus for the nails. As for my hair I'm not sure that I've noticed much of a difference but the other great thing about it is, I went looking for more information on the product and read that you can actually put it directly on your face as it helps acne and blemishes (not that I have any of those , just fine lines) but tried it anyway and the texture of my skin has improved remarkably! Taken internally it is meant to replenish collagen supply and encourage skin elasticity. I am excited! I definitely have some dewiness back in my skin. So for any of you women with mature age skin I would recommend you go and buy yourself some. A bottle has lasted me close to a month. I found mine at Hair Health and Beauty here in Sydney but you can purchase it online and am sure good health food stores will stock it.
I have to share this pic with you as I am completely in love with everything about this shot. The photographer has truly captured a moment in which she looks so incredibly sexy and beautiful with so little effort. I adore her pink hair and if I was anything close to her age I would be rocking that colour right now! The makeup is so minimal but just enough stain on the lip to compliment her hair...I could stare at this shot for hours.
pic courtesy of noxidnaihr on tumblr.com My philosophy with foundation nine times out of ten is "less is more".....and that is at any age. When you're young, your skin is so beautiful and dewy that you don't want to mask it and not let that beautiful texture come thru. I see girls with so much foundation on that is 3 shades darker than their skin (since when was orange a skin tone??) , and you know underneath it they have the most beautiful skin. And when you're older you don't want so much on that it gathers in the fine lines and accentuates them , making the skin look dry and cakey. You just want enough that the skin looks even and dewy. I have abit of a trick I like to do on older women - including myself - and that is to put a small blob of foundation on the apple of each cheek and then one on the chin and one in the middle of the forehead (see pic above. Please excuse the wrong shade on her very pale skin, it was easier to read ) then blend it around and outwards to the edges of the face and up to the nose - usually with a foundation brush for the smoothest effect - making sure you do around the nose to cover any redness , and by the time you have blended it out towards your jawline there is practically nothing there . This gives the illusion of having a full face of foundation because you have evened out the skin tone , but it looks completely natural. Don't forget to put abit on the neck as well and blend up to the jawline so that it fades out and your coverage on your face matches your neck. You can then put a light setting powder over the top. My favourite one is Mac Prep & Prime, it's a transparent powder that doesn' t build up on the face when you re-touch - it keeps the look natural and even. The only exceptions to applying a heavier foundation for me would be for an evening look where you might want something stronger or to give good coverage if you had problem skin.
Here are the new colors from Nars and they are gorgeous. It's always dangerous going into the store to check them out. I go in with the thought of buying one item and usually leave with half the collection! I ended up buying the Como lipgloss, Amsterdam lipstick, Rouge Tribal lipgloss , More velvet gloss lip pencil and Dolce Vita velvet matte lip pencil..... and they are all divine. I have to say that Nars has become my all time favourite for its colors and textures. All the products sit beautifully on the skin and the color is always just the right colour. I especially like too, that they have used Kristen McMenamy as their model for this range...who at 46 is gorgeous. (and yes I know she is airbrushed for this one but still hot!) LOVE her gray hair as well.
