It's no great secret that as we age our skin changes and our skincare regime has to change with it. We need products that treat the hormone imbalances that occur in our body and appear on our skin with the approach of the M-word..... menopause. It is hard finding products out there that support the skin as it ages because even though alot of them claim to have all the active ingredients in them, alot of them are synthetic and can sometimes have an adverse affect on the skin, and even change things on a cellular level. I came across these products at my compounding chemist , Stenlake Pharmacy, who make bio-identicals for menopause (more about that soon on my blog). They hand make this range using all natural active ingredients . They did find, however, they had to add preservatives and parabens to it as having such active ingredients in it, it did not have a long shelf life without it. (On their website I pointed out that they say there are no parabens - which is how it was when it started out - I have asked them to amend the website to make it correct) . Another great thing about this product is the price. They have made it extremely reasonable and upon speaking to them they told me that one of their goals was to make it an affordable product.
I have been using this range now for a couple of months and really love them. The day cream contains Co Enzyme Q10, Vit E and avocado oil. My skin is a little on the oily side so I alternate this with another moisturiser as it is rich . This works really well for me but if you had dry skin you could use it everyday. The neck cream is beautiful and contains Rosehip oil, DMAE, alpha lipoic acid and collagen. The eye cream actually feels like it's nourishing the fine skin around the eye area and contains Co Enzyme Q10, cucumber and grapeseed oil . I have been using the La Prairie eye cream before this as I am very fond of that too but this feels just as good, if not better and I don't have to max out my credit card with this one .... a great find. If you put it in the fridge too you can use it for the puffiness around your eyes. The Dual action Cleanser has mother of pearl beads to exfoliate the skin gently alongwith Vitamin A and avocado oil - this product I really love. Lastly they have a night cream in the range that contains Rosehip oil, Vitamin C , Vitamin A, Vitamin E , that all regenerate the skin as you sleep. It's definitely a range worth testing out to see if it is suitable for the changes that might be going on with your skin . I think the main aim is to make sure the skin still keeps its softness and hydration , so that you can minimise the lines and keep looking great. This range is available to purchase on their website : www.selega.com.au (yes they ship overseas) or if you live in Sydney you can visit them at Level 1, 76 Spring St Bondi Junction.

I have lived with freckles all of my life and despite my mother promising me that they would disappear when I was 20, they are still there and I have finally made peace with them .
All I wanted when I was young was to have flawless , creamy skin like everyone else (or that's the way it seemed) , but alas it was not to happen. In the summertime they would come out even darker and I spent my modelling years having them painted out with inches of foundation , making me wish even more that I hadn't been cursed with them. With the wisdom of age I realise they are not a curse at all, they are unique. I believe they are one of the reasons that I have remained looking younger than my years as no-one expects you to be 50 with a face full of freckles! My sons have all inherited them and when I look at their faces spattered with the sunkisses , I smile... they are adorable. I have learned to love them so much I made a Pinterest board dedicated to freckles and the beautiful faces they adorn. So to any of you who have freckles, don't cover them, celebrate them. They truly are gorgeous....see pic above. pic courtesy of 500px.com I asked one of the mum's from my sons' school to model for me this week so I could do a makeup for women over 40. Susie kindly said yes and I am very grateful to her. I want to use real women for my tutorials as well as models to show you that with the right colors and technique, we can all look great - at any age. As we all know , our makeup has to change as we get older but it doesn't mean that we can't keep it contemporary , and that we can't use colour outside our normal palette.... We just have to use it in the right way and remember to pick one thing to be a feature - either eyes OR lips. I found out the name of the lighter Laura Mercier foundation for you too since my sticker was missing, as well as the brown eye pencil I used. Oh and still perfecting the techniques of shooting and editing too , but getting better! All products used are listed below...... Nars primer " Pro prime skin smoothing face prep " Laura Mercier moisture supreme foundation in Porcelain Ivory and Sunny beige Mac Prep & Prime Nars eyeshadow " Paramaribo" Nars eyeshadow "Cordura" Nars eyeshadow " All about Eve" Laura Mercier " Brown Copper" eye pencil Nars bronzer " Irresistiblement" Bobbi Brown concealer " Natural" Kevyn Aucoin eyebrow pencil "Brunette" Beauty Essentials eyeshadow "Be Mocha" Ellis Faas lipstick L207 Chantecaille lipgloss " Modern" I was thinking of a topic to post this week and it suddenly hit me that this is something I feel the need to write about as I have so many funny stories of girls whose makeup I have done.... I've taken off their MASSES of clumpy spider lashes - Kim Kardashian style (see pic) - and replaced them with beautiful long full mascara lashes that actually enhance the eyes.....only for them to race off to the toilets and layer the lumpy mass back on!!!! Arghhhh! And those girls know who they are because when I catch them and ask if they have reapplied their mascara, they, at first deny that they have done any such thing. Until I tell them there is no way I would have put those things on their eyes - at which point they sheepishly come clean and I have to take it off and start again. They just can't bear to see themselves so "naked" , as they put it. We do laugh about it afterwards and one glare from me stops them attempting a second go. We all get used to seeing ourselves a certain way, and when someone changes that look it can be hard to see it as beautiful because you might feel completely different. Mascara for an everyday look should make your lashes look longer but still natural. No gluggy bits on the ends of the lashes, and 3 or 4 of them stuck together in a coagulated mass. Instead they should be separated and feathered out to the ends. In order to achieve this look you have to have a fresh mascara and a good brush.
Welcome back.. this week I've done a red lip" how to" for you. Many women keep telling me they love red lips but are afraid to do them as they have no clue how to. They aren't that hard to do really , I think the most important thing is to get the lip line straight, blend in the lip pencil so that it's not obvious and make it stay in place so there is no embarassing bleeding... all of which I cover in the videos. Also good to remember too , unless you're going for the Robert Palmer look , keep the eyes simple so that not everything is fighting for attention on your face! The lipstick I have used is my favourite Chanel " Rouge Allure Velvet 39" and the other ones that I mention are: Ellis Faas L101 Nars "Red Lizard" Nars " Red Square" You can use a light loose or pressed powder to dust the lips if you don't have the Mac Prep & Prime... just dust lightly so there is no residue. My friend Eili was having a halloween party and she asked me to do her makeup for it and here it is . It is always so much fun to do fantasy makeup. She gave me a reference for the look she wanted and I did a version of. I just glossed the lips for the top shot so she didn't feel so naked for the pic and later she put in her vampire teeth and painted them black... HOT Eili!
